Evolution Entertainment Group acquired four major slot studios between 2019 and 2022: Red Tiger (September 2019, £220m), NetEnt (December 2020, $2.1bn), Big Time Gaming (April 2021, €450m), and Nolimit City (June 2022, up to €340m). Each acquisition followed the same pattern: existing catalogues maintained their pre-acquisition configurations while new releases shipped with expanded variable tier systems and lower RTP floors.
Red Tiger: 2-Tier to 5-6-Tier
Pre-acquisition: 2-tier (96%/94%). Post-acquisition: 4-tier expanding to 5-6 on newer titles. Average RTP across the catalogue drifted from 96.24% (2016 flagship) to 95.66% (2021+). The lowest Red Tiger tier now reaches 91%.
NetEnt: From Fixed to 8-Tier
Pre-April 2020: fixed-RTP on flagship titles. Post-April 2020: variable tiers introduced on Starburst, Twin Spin, Fruit Shop. Dead or Alive migrated to variable in March 2021. Current NetEnt titles ship with up to 8 tiers reaching 90%.
BTG: The Single-Build Reversal
Pre-February 2024: single-build guarantee — every BTG title published one RTP at every casino. Post-February 2024: TapCards shipped with 86.46-96.45% variable tiers. BTG's legacy catalogue (Bonanza, White Rabbit, Extra Chilli) remains single-build — the reversal only applies to new titles. But the philosophical shift is clear. See BTG legacy: the last guaranteed RTP.
Nolimit City: The Floor Dropped
Pre-acquisition: 2-tier (~96%/~94%). Post-acquisition: expansion to 4-5 tiers on flagships. Mental 2 bottoms at 84.01%. Fire in the Hole 2 at 87.05%. The floor dropped dramatically from a studio that originally built its reputation on transparent maths.
The Pattern
Acquirer inherits a studio with strong player-facing RTP reputations, maintains legacy catalogue to preserve that reputation, then gradually expands tiers on new releases to maximise operator revenue from the franchise. The studio's name carries the historical RTP reputation. The new releases carry Evolution's commercial RTP philosophy. Track current deployment via the RTP tracker.
