A common belief among UK slot players is that activating the Ante Bet on Pragmatic Play titles improves your odds. It does not. The Ante Bet is mathematically neutral on every title we have verified.
The numbers
Gates of Olympus base RTP is 96.50%. With Ante Bet active the RTP remains 96.50%. Sweet Bonanza base is 96.48-96.51%. With Ante the RTP is 96.48-96.50%. Sweet Bonanza 1000 base is 96.53%. With Ante it is 96.50%. Big Bass Splash maintains the same RTP with the 50% increased stake.
What the Ante Bet actually does
What the Ante Bet actually does is redistribute variance. It increases the probability of triggering the bonus feature in exchange for a 25% higher stake per spin. You enter the bonus round more frequently but pay proportionally more for each spin. The expected mathematical return over time is identical.
This means the Ante Bet is a volatility adjustment, not a value adjustment. If you enjoy the bonus feature and want to see it more often, the Ante Bet delivers that experience. If you believe it increases your expected return, it does not.
Feature Buy is banned in the UK
A separate but related myth: the Feature Buy or Bonus Buy feature, which does typically carry a tiny mathematical uplift of 0.02-0.05 percentage points over base RTP. However, Feature Buy has been banned in the UK by UKGC effective September 2025. UK players cannot access this mechanic. The only variance adjustment available to UK players is the Ante Bet — which, again, is RTP-neutral.
What this means in practice
The practical impact of this finding: at a UK casino deploying Gates of Olympus at 94.50% (the lowest standard tier), enabling the Ante Bet gives you a 94.50% game with more frequent bonuses at 25% higher cost. It does not move you closer to the 96.50% top tier. Casino choice determines your RTP. Ante Bet choice does not.
