One of the most common questions we receive at RTPTrack is whether UK-licensed casinos run reduced RTP versions of popular slots. The short answer is that some do, but the picture is more nuanced than the blanket claims you see on gambling forums. We decided to check for ourselves by verifying Pragmatic Play RTP settings across 10 major UK-licensed casinos for five of the most-played slots: Gates of Olympus, Sweet Bonanza, Big Bass Bonanza, Wolf Gold, and The Dog House Megaways.

The results were mixed. Seven of the ten casinos we checked ran all five titles at the full 96.50% RTP tier. This is encouraging and suggests that the majority of established UK operators are competing on fairness rather than squeezing extra margin from RTP reductions. The UK market is mature and competitive, and informed players are increasingly aware that RTP varies between casinos. Operators who want to retain these players have a clear incentive to offer the best available settings.

However, three casinos showed reduced settings on at least some titles. Two ran Wolf Gold and The Dog House Megaways at the mid-tier 95.50% while keeping Gates of Olympus and Sweet Bonanza at 96.50%. This selective approach suggests a deliberate strategy — keeping the most visible titles at full RTP while quietly reducing less prominent games. The third casino ran all five titles at 95.50%, a blanket reduction that costs players an additional £10 per £1,000 wagered compared to the full-RTP casinos.

None of the UK casinos we checked used the lowest 87% tier on any of these titles. This is significant because the 87% setting is common at some internationally licensed casinos. UK players are generally better served than players in less regulated markets, but they are not immune to reduced settings entirely.

We did not find any UK casino running reduced RTP on NetEnt titles. Starburst, Dead or Alive 2, and Blood Suckers all showed their full theoretical RTP at every UK casino we checked. This aligns with NetEnt's general practice of offering less RTP variation to operators compared to Pragmatic Play.

For Play'n GO titles, the picture was similar to Pragmatic Play. Book of Dead showed full RTP at seven casinos and a reduced 94.20% at three. Reactoonz was at full RTP everywhere we checked. The variation appears to be title-specific rather than provider-wide.

Our takeaway is straightforward. Most UK casinos offer competitive RTP settings on most games. But exceptions exist, and the only way to know for certain is to check. The UKGC requires casinos to make RTP information available, but it does not mandate that casinos use the highest setting. As always, we recommend verifying the RTP in the game rules section of your specific casino before playing, or using RTPTrack to compare across operators.

We plan to expand this analysis quarterly, adding more casinos and more providers to build a comprehensive picture of the UK RTP landscape. If you have a specific UK casino you want us to check, submit a request through our contact page.
